I’m posting some pretty big news here, mostly because I don’t want to go on about it on Facebook, Twitter or my public blog until I know exactly what’s going on, but I have to say something because I am happy about it.
Hubby got a promotion today. [insert cheers and applause here]
While we were eating dinner the phone rang, it was the head of the dispatch department at Hubby’s company asking him to come into work at midnight tonight. I groaned because he got called in on Tuesday night as well, and I don’t think it’s right that he’s up all day long, working and then he gets a call a few hours before they want him in and expect him to just jump and head into the office and be all sleep deprived and grumpy for a day or so after.
But Hubby gave me the thumbs up sign to let me know that this was a good thing, so I shut up and let him finish his phone call.
After he got off the phone Hubby told me that he’d just been promoted to the night time dispatcher, which is a promotion since for the past six months or so he’s been doing a dispatchers job but is only actually an office administrator, yup a secretary. I laughed and said now he won’t have to worry about his boss chasing him around the desk.
Sadly this promotion means that the old night dispatcher got fired, and from the way Hubby was called in, I’d have to say something went down and they had to fire him on the spot. Now this promotion did not just come out of nowhere. Hubby’s been telling me about all the crazy stuff the night time guy has been doing, and the two of us shook our heads in disbelief.
Some of the higher ups have been calling for this poor guys dismissal for a while, a well known fact, even to the guy who got fired. But did he buck up and stop rocking the boat, no! Instead he went toe to toe with the head of the dispatch department, the one guy who had his back at all times. Crazy stuff!
So I feel sorry for the guy, but no amount of warnings that many people gave him managed to sink into his brain and so he is now gone and Hubby is promoted and hopefully this promotion comes with a substantial raise, because God knows we sure could use it!
Of course my Mom’s first response was ‘Now I can raise your rent.’ She said it in one of those tones that at first makes you think the person is joking but then when you think about it, perhaps not so much.
I hope she’s joking because right now we have just enough money to cover our monthly bills and we have nothing left over for anything else.
It would be nice if we could have some money for some of the fun things, like clothes. I’d kill for a new pair of socks!
