Nervous Excitement

In eleven days we will be having a house guest from Germany. Marc is a German Exchange student from Hersbruck, near Neuremburg. He will be here from September 28th to October 9th.
In preparation of Marc’s arrival we are sprucing up the house as well as trying to plan a few outings that will give him a truly ‘Canadian Experience’.
We’ve been told that in years past the kids from germany have enjoyed anything associated with Native American people so we’re trying to plan something for that since it’s not covered to much by the school. Their last day they are supposed to be having native dancers come to the school for a couple of hours.
The school will be taking them to Niagara Falls, China town (since the area they’re from isn’t very multicultural) , the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum and Queens Park (Provincial Government Building).
On the weekend it’s up to us to entertain Marc and we want to ensure he has an awesome time. We’ve got a game of paintball planned because Marc wants to play but in Germany there is an age limit and he’s too young. We’re planning a day at Canada’s Wonderland (amusement park), a trip to northern Ontario to hike through some trails and to see the fall foliage. We’re also thinking of showing some of the great lakes to him, since where he comes from the largest body of water is literally a pond.
Hopefully Marc has a great time here, we really want to do all we can to entertain him, but at the same time we don’t want to exhaust him.

How wonderful! Since I was a kid I have wanted to host someone from another country. In all my life I have never lived in a home that fit the qualifications required.

    • I’m so sorry you haven’t gotten to host someone from another country.
The only requirement we had to fulfill for the exchange was be able to provide a bed, have a child going to Germany and be able to treat him like my own child. Meaning feed and pay for his extra curricular activities.
