Long Time Waiting

Today I had an appointment with my youngest sons nutritionist/dietician and what a pain.
We were 15 minutes late due to traffic and this was the first time we weren’t 15 minutes early. Our appointment was for 10:45 and we were there by 11. We then had to wait until 12:15 in the waiting area for the nurse to usher us in to the weighing/measuring room. We then were seen into a room to wait for the nutritionist/dietician, and they didn’t come to see us until 1:05.
We were told that our son has lost weight since May, not good since he was already severely underweight and the whole reason we’re being seen in the nutrition clinic is so we can try to put some weight on this child of mine.
We explained about losing Dev’s funding and not getting a drug card anymore (the drug card covered the prescription for his formula for his feeding tube and there is no plan out there that covers this formula). We explained that we just can’t afford the $400/month that his formula would be costing us.  I asked about liquefying food and then feeding him that through the tube, something that the newsletter for the hospital had talked about. The nutritionist voiced a very determined ‘No’. He stated that this can compromise the tube and cause the need for a new one to be inserted. Hell no! He just got this one in May when he pulled the last one out at school.

So now we have to make up this new formula which will cost us about $150/month. Hopefully this will help my son grow and gain some much-needed weight.
He needs to take in about 4,000 calories every day. It’s my goal that the next time we go to see these doctors they’ll be happy with his weight gain, perhaps even surprised. So far since he got this feeding tube inserted in January 2012 they haven’t seen any significant weight gain. I mean for this to be the last visit that they waggle their eyebrows at me and wonder why he isn’t putting any weight on.

We didn’t get out of there until almost 3:00. My husband was supposed to be at work for 2:30. He was not amused.

It’s that feeling that they’re just not listening to you, no matter how hard you are trying to follow their instructions. Nothing makes me angrier than being treated as if I’m too stupid for them. I wish I could help you…
